Dermal Fillers

All about the Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the types of dermal fillers, as well as pre- and post-procedure care.

Types of Dermal Fillers we offer:

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers
   -  Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero.
   - Characteristics: These are the most common fillers, made from a substance naturally found in the body. They attract water, providing volume and hydration.
   - Duration: Typically last 6-12 months.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite Fillers
   - Examples: Radiesse.
   - Characteristics: Made of a mineral-like compound found in bones, these fillers stimulate collagen production and provide a more robust structure.
   - Duration: Lasts around 12-18 months.

Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) Fillers
   - Examples: Bellafill.
   - Characteristics: These are semi-permanent fillers containing microspheres that provide support and structure. They are used for deeper wrinkles and lines.
   - **Duration**: Lasts several years.

Pre-Procedure Care

1. Consultation
   - Discuss goals, medical history, and any allergies.
   - Review expectations and potential risks.

2. Avoid Certain Medications
   - Stop blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) at least one week prior, unless advised otherwise by a doctor.
   - Avoid supplements like vitamin E and fish oil, which may increase bleeding.

3. Limit Alcohol and Smoking
   - Avoid alcohol 24 hours before the procedure.
   - Smoking can affect healing and increase complications.

4. Skin Preparation
   - Cleanse the area thoroughly.
   - Inform your provider about any skin conditions or recent treatments (e.g., chemical peels, laser treatments).

Post-Procedure Care

1. Initial Care
   - Apply ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort.
   - Keep the head elevated for the first few hours.

2. Avoid Touching the Area
   - Refrain from touching or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours.

3. Limit Physical Activity
   - Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, or hot baths for 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.

4. Follow-Up
   - Schedule a follow-up appointment to assess results and address any concerns.

5. Monitor for Side Effects
   - Be aware of swelling, bruising, or redness, which are common.
   - Contact your provider if you experience severe pain, rash, or signs of infection (e.g., fever, pus).

6. Sun Protection
   - Protect the treated area from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Dermal fillers can be a great option for enhancing facial features and reducing signs of aging. Understanding the types available, and following proper pre- and post-care instructions can help achieve the best results while minimizing risks.
